Lithuania and Palestine to set-up joint economic committee

Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius and his Palestinian counterpart, Rami Hamdallah, have decided to set up an intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation between the two countries. 

A press release issued by the Lithuanian government stated the Butkevicius and Hamdallah discussed bilateral political and diplomatic relations at their meeting on Monday September 7, 2015.

“Lithuania wants to enhance cooperation with this country; we want to take a closer look at the situation,” the released quoted Butkevicius as saying. 

“I’m certain our dialogue will help ensure regular contacts between Lithuanian and Palestinian diplomats and we expect your representatives to pay a visit to our country.”

Butkevicius added companies working in the food, furniture, chemical and other industrial sectors were interested in exports to Palestine.

According to the government, Butkevicius is also the first Lithuanian Prime Minister to pay an official visit to Palestine.
