VILNIUS - On March 14, 2018, following to publications in Mass Media on the incident with radioactive materials that took place in the end of December 2017 during activities on decommissioning of Ignalina NPP, MFA of Belarus summoned Ambassador of Lithuania to Belarus Andrius Pulokas.

The diplomatic note expressing concern of Belarus that it was not promptly notified about the incident at the site of Ignalina was handed to the Ambassador.

Principles of transparency and responsibility for ensuring nuclear safety culture should be equally applied to any nuclear activity, including decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP.

MFA of Belarus called upon Lithuania to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and to inform Belarus of its results.

Taking into account direct proximity of Ignalina NPP to the common border Belarus counts on the prompt provision by the Lithuanian Side of information about all incidents at nuclear facilities or involving nuclear materials that could potentially cause radiation releases.

This information was also provided to the Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus A.Wiktorin and forwarded to the European bodies through the Mission of Belarus in Brussels.
