VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda says it is important for Lithuania and Poland to further step up their military cooperation.

He stressed this during a phone conversation with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Friday, the presidential press service said.

"During the conversation, the president stressed that it is important for Lithuania and Poland to continue intensifying their military cooperation in the face of the deteriorating security situation. According to the president, it is also crucial to work together to pool allied support for Ukraine," the statement reads.

The two presidents also discussed the regional security situation, bilateral defense cooperation, preparations for next week's Three Seas Summit in Vilnius, and the Lithuanian-Polish military exercises to be held at the end of this month.

Speaking about the Three Seas Initiative, Nauseda underlined its increased importance for strengthening the resilience of the region and the growing interest and willingness of European countries to join this platform.
