Latvian ice hockey team greeted by some 30,000 fans by Freedom Monument in Riga - police

RIGA - On Monday, the Latvian ice hockey team was greeted by some 30,000 fans at the Freedom Monument in Riga, according to the State Police.

State Police spokeswoman Simona Gravite told LETA that the event by the Freedom Monument went on smoothly, without any incidents, but the police will continue to watch public order in the city.

As reported, in the bronze medal match at the Ice Hockey World Championships on Sunday, the Latvian national hockey team defeated the United States 4:3 in overtime. This is the first medal ever won by Latvia at Ice Hockey World Championships.
