RIGA - Today, Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri (New Unity) met with Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Latvia Nesrin Ash Shebel to discuss strengthening cooperation in the fields of digitization of healthcare, health tourism and medical education, LETA was informed at the ministry.
The minister has proposed signing a memorandum of understanding between Latvia and Saudi Arabia on cooperation in the health sector. Abu Meri also informed the ambassador that Saudi Arabian residents have also visited Latvia for medical tourism. He pointed out that Latvia can offer high quality healthcare services in areas such as bariatrics, anti-ageing procedures, orthopaedics and medical fertilization.
During her meeting with Abu Meri, the representative of Saudi Arabia inquired about Latvia's experience in hosting foreign students and promoting cooperation in the field of medical education.
They also discussed the upcoming visit of the health minister and a delegation of industry entrepreneurs to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in October, when the delegation is scheduled to participate in the Global Health Exhibition, where Abu Meri will deliver a speech.
Abu Meri is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Saudi Arabian health minister, as well as an introduction to the country's healthcare system through visits to medical facilities and meetings with digital health experts.
The aim of the visit is to raise the profile of Latvia's healthcare sector and discuss opportunities for cooperation.
