Latvian choirs win a number of medals in 3rd European Choir Games held in Riga

RIGA – Latvian choirs have won a number of medals at the Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 and the 3rd European Choir Games held in Riga, and currently is the leader by the number of awards, the organizers of the event reported.

The first Awards Ceremony at the Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 and the 3rd European Choir Games was held on Wednesday.

Latvian women choir Balta and mixed choir Ventspils were named winners of the Grand Prix of Nationas, while Latvian choirs in total received 17 gold and two silver medals. In the European Choir Games Latvia won two champion titles – for mixed choir Laiks and children and youth ensemble Gaismina, as well as six gold and four silver medals, and eight gold and ten silver diplomas in the Open Competition.

The second Awards Ceremony in five more categories will be held on July 23.

More than 150 choirs with 10,000 singers, representing 39 nations have flocked in Riga for the Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 and the 3rd European Choir Games
