Latvia values cooperation with Switzerland in science and innovation

RIGA - On Tuesday, Latvian Ambassador to Switzerland Ingrida Levrence was accredited in Bern. During the accreditation ceremony, the Ambassador presented her letter of credence to Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, LETA was told by the Foreign Ministry.

In a conversation, Levrence noted that Latvia and Switzerland share long-standing bilateral relations and she reiterated interest in continuing active political dialogue. In addition, cooperation between Latvia and Switzerland in the fields of science and innovation, particularly in medical technologies, is highly valued.

The officials discussed the close relations between Switzerland and the European Union, Latvia’s priorities in the UN Security Council, and Swiss OSCE chairpersonship.

The Ambassador expressed her condolences over the tragic events at the Crans-Montana resort and those who lost their lives, and reaffirmed Latvia’s readiness to provide medical assistance to the injured.

During her visit to Switzerland, Ambassador Levrence also met with representatives of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Switzerland, as well as attended the New Year’s reception hosted by the President of the Swiss Confederation.

The Latvian Ambassador to Switzerland resides in Vienna. Ambassador Levrence took up her duties in Vienna on September 17, 2025, succeeding Ambassador Guna Japina, who had represented Latvia’s interests in Austria since 2021.
