RIGA - To mark a year since the establishment of the drone coalition, the Defense Ministry in cooperation with Riga Technical University (RTU) will organize a drone summit for Ukraine on May 28, LETA was told at the Defense Ministry's press office.
Participants of the drone summit will discuss the coalition's achievements and lessons learned, as well as future goals, focusing on the challenges of global security and modern warfare. The summit in Riga will bring together defense ministers, leading experts and defense industry companies from the member states of the international drone coalition to form a common platform for countries to agree on future drone deliveries to Ukraine, while also developing the drone capabilities of coalition member states.
Latvia demonstrates leadership in the drone coalition by organizing the summit, supporting Ukraine and promoting the development of the drone industry, business cooperation and innovation. This demonstrates Latvia's commitment and ability to provide Ukraine with the necessary drones and to develop the defense industry, the ministry said.
As reported, Latvia together with the UK have initiated and are leading an international drone coalition. Since its establishment in 2024, Latvia has delivered around 5,000 combat drones of various types and capabilities to Ukraine.
The Drone Coalition member states aim to provide the drones, technological support and personnel training that Ukraine needs. The commitment provides for the delivery to Ukraine of combat drones of different capabilities, designed to meet the requirements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Coalition includes 17 Member States - Latvia, the UK, Ukraine, as well as Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden.
