RIGA - Latvia is ready to support Ukraine politically, militarily and financially until its victory, President Edgars Rinkevics stressed at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at Riga Castle on Thursday.

Presidential adviser Martins Dregeris told LETA that Rinkevics confirmed Latvia's unwavering support for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration. During the meeting, Rinkevics also confirmed Latvia's support for the start of discussions on Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) as soon as possible.

The President expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached on long-term support and security commitments, pledging to provide Ukraine with military aid amounting to 0.25 percent of gross domestic product this year and for the next two years.

Rinkevics underlined Latvia's readiness to support Ukraine in international organisations, including by sharing Latvia's experience in the EU accession talks.
