RIGA - Latvia, too, has suspended its payments to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.
Latvia is suspending its annual payments to the UNRWA until investigation into several UNRWA employees, suspected of involvement in the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 last year, is completed, said the Foreign Ministry.
Since 2020, Latvia has been annually paying EUR 17,000 to the UNRWA. Following the escalation and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Latvia on November 14, 2023 contributed another EUR 100,000 to the UNRWA.
UNRWA provides humanitarian aid in Palestinian territories. A number of countries have suspended their payments to the agency as twelve employees of the agency are suspected of involvement in the major attack on Israel by the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas on October 7.
