Latvia’s detention conditions get European Court of Human Rights’ attention

With the decision released in early July 2016 on the case Jeronovics v. Latvia, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has faced the serious problem of the prisoners’ conditions in Latvian prisons, clarifying the extension of the State duties coming from the ECHR. The complaint was filed by Viktors Jeronovics, a Latvian national currently detained in Daugavpils Prison in Latvia.
