King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden visits Latvia

RIGA - King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden will visit Latvia on Thursday, the Chancellery of the President of Latvia informed LETA.

A welcoming ceremony for the King of Sweden will be held at 10:40 at the Adazi military base together with Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics. At 14:00, a meeting between King Carl XVI Gustaf and the President will take place at Riga Castle.

As reported, the Swedish Mechanized Infantry Battalion from the South Skane Regiment arrived in Latvia earlier this year to join the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia at the Adazi base. Approximately 500 Swedish soldiers are on duty in Latvia.

The deployment of Swedish forces in Latvia is part of the Alliance's efforts to protect NATO's eastern flank. Canada is the lead nation of the NATO multinational brigade deployed in Latvia. The brigade brings together troops from Albania, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Northern Macedonia and Sweden.
