Karins emphasizes support for Ukraine and for strengthening NATO presence in Baltics during phone conversation with Macron

RIGA - Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) over the weekend had a phone conversation with French President Emanuel Macron ahead of his upcoming visit to Moscow and Kiev, the prime minister said on Twitter on Monday.

Karins points out that he underlined the importance of keeping the unity among allies, continuing strong support for Ukraine as well as for strengthening of NATO presence in the Baltic countries.

Macron will visit Moscow and Kiev early this week to meet with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.

Macron went to Russia on Monday to meet with President Vladimir Putin, and on Tuesday he is scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine.

The French president, who has called for easing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, has had several telephone conversations in recent days with both Putin and Zelensky, as well as with U.S. President Joe Biden.
