RIGA - The main priorities of the 2025 state budget should be internal and external security and enhancing competitiveness by investing in science and improving skills, President Edgars Rinkevics said during a meeting with Finance Minister Arvils Aseradens (New Unity) at his residence in Jurmala on Monday.
According to the president's advisor Martins Dregeris, the two officials discussed progress with the work on the 2025 state budget and performance of the task force on tax reforms. Rinkevics and Aseradens also discussed current developments in the banking sector, including lending activity in Latvia that still remains insufficient.
Work on the 2025 state budget will be challenging, therefore it is necessary to start communicating about the upcoming changes, especially if they concern the tax system, in good time, said Rinkevics. He also said that all the parties involved should be aware that making changes would require compromises.
