RIGA - Latvian hospitals have not yet received EUR 5 million in payment for their services during the first two months of this year, according to the information at the disposal of LETA.

The National Health Service (NVD) has sent a letter to all hospitals, informing that it has assessed the performance of the contracts on the secondary ambulatory health care services for the first two months, and the overperformance amounts to EUR 5 million.

NVD appreciates the work of hospitals for the good of their patients and is aware of the problems related with long lines patients have to wait to receive the services. At the same time, NVD reminds that hospitals should plan the patients' flow in line with the budget resources.

NVD has warned hospitals that it does not have free financial resources to cover the expenses at present.

As President Egils Levits promulgated the law on the government budget on March 21, 2023, NVD has promised to inform hospitals on the allocated funds within 30 days. After that, hospitals can start planning their budgets.
