RIGA - The world renowned Latvian theater director Alvis Hermanis calls on Russian theater workers to stop performing and entertaining the local audience while the Russian state is killing people in Ukraine.

In a video published by Hermanis on his Facebook page, the director points out that the Moscow Theater has announced that the performance Shukshin's Stories, which he has produced, will take place on March 4. Hermanis noted that he is not in a position to cancel the performance, so he has demanded that his name be removed from the poster.

"I understand that signing various letters of peace is welcome, but in this situation it is not enough. If you want the rest of the theater world to continue to respect you, I would advise you to start a disobedience campaign and stop playing shows and entertain the local audience until your country stops its aggression in Ukraine,'' Hermanis said.
