RIGA - Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri (New Unity) is interested in the Danish experience in modernizing and strengthening the hospital network to make it more sustainable.

The Minister met today with Danish Ambassador to Latvia Morten Jespersen to discuss cooperation between the two countries in the field of health, LETA was informed.

The new Danish ambassador said that he would be happy to cooperate more closely in the field of health care, offering Latvia the opportunity to learn from Denmark's health care reforms. The Danish ambassador asked about the infrastructure projects implemented in Latvia, the funding available for the health sector and the services provided by health facilities to the population.

Abu Meri expressed interest in Denmark's experience in modernizing and strengthening the hospital network to make it more sustainable. The aim is to ensure that every place in Latvia can receive the same level of quality healthcare. Denmark has been down this road and Latvia would be happy to learn from its experience.

The minister also expressed interest in Denmark's experience in digitization in order to streamline the system in Latvia.

Strengthening primary health care is also an important topic. Abu Meri said that he would be happy to learn about the Danish experience in this area, as primary healthcare in Denmark is strong and there is very good cooperation between the levels of healthcare. However, it would be useful to assess existing practices in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and in the care of oncology patients at the specialist and expert level.

During the meeting, the minister and the ambassador agreed to clearly identify topics of interest and to organize an exchange visit to Denmark.
