RIGA - On July 6, the Cabinet of Ministers supported posting of a civilian expert, Sintija Helviga-Eihvalde, to the European Union Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) as of August 2 this year.

Helviga-Eihvalde has been approved for the post of Senior Adviser on Anti-Corruption. Following her appointment, the mission will have nine civilian experts from Latvia, with the total number of civilian experts sent by Latvia on international missions amounting to 19.

The EU Advisory Mission Ukraine was established in 2014 to provide advisory support for Ukraine in the field of civil security sector reforms. The mission provides strategic advice to the Ukrainian authorities both at the central and regional level on the development of civilian security strategies and hands-on support for the implementation of specific reform measures. The mission also offers advice on the reorganization and restructuring of agencies in Ukraine’s civilian security sector.

Currently, 24 European Union Member States are contributing to the EU Advisory Mission. Latvia joined EUAM Ukraine in 2015.

Candidates for EU missions are selected by the European External Action Service (EEAS).
