TALLINN - Influential Italian journalist and politician Giulietto Chiesa was arrested in Estonia earlier this month. Chiesa, 74, a former Member of the European Parliament, was held in Estonia on account of his pro-Russian views and the fear that he may have been intending to stir up tension between Moscow and Tallinn. The Italian was first held in his hotel room without access to telephone or email and was then transferred to a prison cell for a number of hours.
