RIGA - Four Saeima members, including opposition leaders Ainars Slesers (Latvia First) and Aleksejs Roslikovs (Stability), are due to lose their mandates from this Tuesday, Saeima Vice Speaker Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica (New Unity) told LETA.
She indicated that the results of last week's municipal elections in Riga have been approved and promulgated, so Roslikovs and Slesers, who have been elected to Riga City Council, are expected to leave the parliament.
MPs Mairita Luse (Progressives) and Maris Sprindzuks (United List) are also losing their mandates.
As Slesers takes up his mandate as Riga councilor, his seat in the Saeima goes to Maija Armanjeva.
Roslikovs will be replaced in the Saeima by Ruslans Verescagins.
As Luse takes her seat on the city council, her seat in parliament should go to Selma Levrence. However, Levrence has suspended her membership in the Progressives party due to ideological disagreements.
Andrejs Svilans, who should replace Sprindzuks in the Saeima, has been elected to Salaspils Municipal Council. The next candidate Davis Melnalksnis has been elected to Limbazi Council, Romualds Razuks has won a sat on Riga City Council, and Ringolds Arnitis has been elected to Valmiera Muncipal Council. Agnese Geduseva would be the next candidate to replace Sprindzuks.
The State Security Service (VDD) on Monday opened criminal proceedings against MP Aleksejs Roslikovs (Stability) on suspicion of providing assistance to the aggressor state Russia in its actions against Latvia and inciting national hatred, the service informed LETA.
The criminal proceedings were initiated after the service assessed Roslikovs' statements at the June 5 Saeima session, as well as other recent activities.
The VDD reminded that the service on several occasions had already held preventive talks with the leader of the Stability party, warning about the criminal liability in case of committing criminal offences.
