TALLINN – Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna on Thursday morning described the visit of the Ukrainian head of state as historic for Estonia, saying that Estonians have reason to be proud of themselves, as Estonia has unconditionally supported Ukraine.
"If it is said that the war has dragged on too long and whether we can still move forward, then Estonia is the one who has confirmed that we will not get tired," Tsahkna said on the "Telehommik" morning program of Kanal 2 television.
One of the topics in which Estonia plays a leading role is the freezing of Russian assets and their use in support of Ukraine, the minister noted.
He said that meetings with Ukraine at the level of foreign ministers took place already on Wednesday evening, but the official day of the visit is Thursday.
According to Tsahkna, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the number one target for Russia, which means that they are trying to kill him in whatever possible way.
"We have to understand that Estonia is very close to Russia," Tsahkna said, noting that Estonia plays a special role in this respect and that hundreds of people are involved in the security of the Ukrainian head of state.
According to the Estonian minister, it is expected that, when speaking in Estonia, the head of state of Ukraine will once again raise the issue of supporting Ukraine, as Ukraine is not just fighting for its own country, but for the whole free world.
"Zelenskyy will also definitely talk about the mobilization of frozen Russian assets," said Tsahkna.
He added that Thursday's visit will certainly be an expression of Ukraine's wish to thank Estonia.
"Our voice will be more leveraged and we assure that Ukraine will not tire," the minister said.
