RIGA - The Foreign Affairs Committees of the Baltic parliaments will visit Latvia's eastern border this Thursday and Friday, the Saeima Press Service informed LETA.
According to Saeima representatives, the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Baltic parliaments will meet in Latvia on Thursday and Friday. During the meeting, the parliamentarians will visit Latvia's eastern border to get a first-hand look at the situation and discuss the current foreign policy and security challenges facing the Baltic states in the context of threats posed by Russia and Belarus.
"In recent weeks, the Baltic states have faced increased security challenges, including drone incidents in the airspace of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. During the meeting, we will discuss how to cooperate more closely to strengthen common security and resilience against threats posed by the aggressor states," said Inara Murniece (National Alliance), Chair of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee. She added that Baltic lawmakers will also inspect the Baltic Defense Line, which is being built along the countries' eastern border.
The meeting will also focus on the broader foreign policy context of the Baltic countries - Russia's aggressive policy, Belarus' involvement in regional destabilization processes, as well as hybrid threats, including the instrumentalization of migration, cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. These challenges require close and coordinated action by the Baltic states at both the national and international levels, the Saeima representatives said.
Representatives of the Defense Ministry, the State Border Guard, and the National Armed Forces will also take part in the discussions, providing practical insights into current security issues and operational preparedness.
