14th international music festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" from August 9 to 12 and 14 to 15, traditionally will become the culmination of this summer’s concert season in Jurmala. This year, the festival’s programme will pleasantly surprise all of its constant guests with new performances and interesting interpretations of well-known compositions, thus certainly conquering a new audience.
Festival’s motto – "classics, jazz and Balkan rock’n’roll" reveals the main aspects of this year’s summer festival, where the hits of different genres and times will be reborn in a new and unexpected performance. Festival’s programme will be opened by Frank Sinatra’s songs, however on the second day, legendary rock hits from repertoire of such bands as Nirvana, Queen, Led Zeppelin and others will be performed by the genius pianist – Daniel Kramer and jazz quartet of A. Rumyantsev. Admirers of the classical music will be delighted by a special concert in the small concert hall of Dzintari, arranged by Inese Galante, meanwhile fans of the fiery Balkan music will be able to appraise a performance of charismatic and world-wide known musician – Goran Bregovic. Traditionally, the grand closing concert on one stage will gather Latvian and foreign stars, as well as new talents. Two more concerts, on August 14 and 15, will be organized for the festival’s closing part. On August 14 famous Italian singer Giovanni Costello in his unique manner will perform well-known Italian hits and ballades – compositions from Caruso to Celentano repertoire. On August 15 the 14th international music festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" will conclude with the grand closing concert of the outstanding musical trio – Trio Paris Royale and its soloist, violinist–wunderkind from Germany – Baptiste Pawlik. In the programme of the concert – diversity of genres: from French café, gypsy jazz, tango from the movie “Scent of a Woman” to hits from repertoire of such legends as Michael Jackson and rock band Coldplay.

This year’s opening concert of the festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" will take place in unusual and extraordinary format – traditional classical symphony concert will be replaced by another version of classics, in another genre – the atmosphere of music festival filled with charm will be created by songs from the repertoire of the legendary ballad performer and the “velvety” voice owner – Frank Sinatra. Sinatra’s compositions form the golden fond of musical culture and up until today conquers listeners all over the world, leaving marks in everyone’s souls, regardless of nationality, age and musical taste. When Frank Sinatra left this world, journalists wrote: “Screw the calendar! The day of Frank Sinatra’s death is the end of 20th century».
For the first time in Latvia, within the framework of the festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends", the best interpreter of outstanding Sinatra’s songs, recognised performer of American legend’s songs by the world’s critics and audiences, outstanding singer and composer from Germany – Tom Gaebel will perform. He expertly imitates Sinatra’s romantic style of performance by demonstrating expression and strengths of his voice that will certainly surprise festival’s audience. During that evening concert listeners will be delighted as well by the performance of the beloved artist, world-renowned opera diva and the host of the festival – Inese Galante.
By performing widely known and popular melodies, Tom Gaebel will be accompanied by local jazz band "Jelgavas Big Band" under the lead of conductor – Raitis Ašmanis. This will be a long-awaited cooperation of the musical band and its maestro both with the worldwide known musician and the festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends". With their experience of more than 25 years’ "Jelgavas Big Band" has fascinated not only jazz music lovers in Europe, but also in America. Among the Latvian artists, the band has an excellent cooperation with maestro Raimonds Pauls, Intars Busulis, Marija Naumova, Ieva Kerēvica and other well-known musicians.

Jazz, as a music style, is very versatile and easy falls into any other music genre – from folklore music to rock music melodies. Examples of such experiments are concert programmes of Russian leading saxophonist and jazz music virtuoso Anton Rumyantsev – “Nirvana in Jazz”, “Queen in Jazz”, “Led Zeppelin in Jazz” and others. Compositions by those excellent collectives were played and continue to sound in the concert halls, festivals and radio stations all over the world. Most of the jazz musicians simply interpret world’s famous song melodies, but A. Rumyantsev has particularly created specific programmes dedicated to each band separately. A presence of vivid emotionality and temperament is felt in his interpretations at the same time maintaining a respect for legendary songs and their performers. Anton Rumyantsev and his jazz quartet presents a lot of those concert programmes in different European cities, where crowded halls of every concert are filled with unrelenting ovations.
Festival’s "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" second day’s guests will have a unique opportunity to enjoy above mentioned programmes’ compositions in all their glory. In Jurmala, the band of Anton Rumyantsev, will perform together with the legendary Russian pianist – virtuoso Daniel Kramer, who on multiple requests of listeners will perform again in the festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends". Already for five consecutive years Daniel Kramer has regaled festival’s "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" guests with his presence, each time performing with different musicians – always masterful and bright stage colleagues. For admirers of the classical music, Inese Galante has intended a special concert for the festival "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends": on August 11, in the Small hall of the concert hall “Dzintari”, which is famous for its acoustics, the patroness – one of the best soprano vocals in the world and owner of the unique piano playing technique – Inese Galante, will perform together with talented piano master from Germany – Alexander Schmalcz.
During the concert in Jurmala, the most beautiful love arias and lyrical musical compositions will be heard. Those performances will allow all present concert guests to feel the love of artists for listeners, music and life as such. During this concert the matter of love and warmth of the soul will be felt throughout all songs. A joint performance of remarkable artists already has conquered a recognition of Stockholm audience, Nobel laureates and royal family, guiding the concert with stormy ovations.
Alexander Schamlcz is a famous pianist from Germany, participant of many international festivals. Alexander has performed in the biggest opera houses and most prestigious stages in the world, such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Opera Houses of Vienna and Munich, Wigmore Hall in London, Seoul Arts Centre, Opera House in Tokyo as well regularly performing in many other countries in Europe, America and Asia. Musician is cooperating with Inese Galante already for a long time and both together have been performing in many world’s most famous concert halls.

Goran Bregovic – worldwide star, one of the most internationally known and admired musicians and composer, originally from the former Yugoslavia. For a wider audience he is well known as an author of the music for the movies directed by Emir Kusturica. Music by Bregovic is a combination of fiery Balkan rhythm and gypsy motives together with a play of wind instruments saturated with contemporary base and beats. Thanks to his talent, artistry and charisma, Bregovic is attracting listeners all over the world – performing on the stage as if carelessly, demonstrating unspeakable magic of his music and creating associations with the gypsy ethnos and Balkan traditions making all listeners to dance – adults and children, irrespective of their age, status and nationality.
The concert schedule of Goran Bregovic is filled for years ahead. In Latvia the artist is a rare guest, however four years ago he already performed for the festival’s "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" 10-year anniversary, earning a recognition and love accompanied with ovations from Jurmala’s audience. G. Bregovic’s performance will therefore be a pleasure for musician’s talent admires. On August 12, in the concert hall of “Dzintari” traditional – already 14th international music festival’s "Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends" closing concert will take place – a bright culmination of the music festival arranged by Inese Galante. Listeners will enjoy a combination of positive emotions thanks to the diversity of musical performances: during the evening on the stage will be seen Latvian and foreign stars together with new talents – laureates of the “Inese Galante’s talents” contest.
Only the closing concert “Galá Galante” will provide the unique opportunity to see and hear the music star constellation on one stage: soloists of the Latvian National opera, who have earned recognition of professional music critics and audience – Raimonds Bramanis, Mikhail Chulpayev and Juris Vizbulis, combining their voices and charisma in a musical trio of tenors – Tenoru trio; an excellent Latvian countertenor – Sergejs Jegers, witty and charismatic personality Intars Busulis and, of course, festival’s main figure – Inese Galante, as well as widely admired mezzo-soprano from Russia – Olesya Petrova and legendary Russian jazz pianist – Daniel Kramer. As a special guest in the closing concert of the festival world-wide known Italian singer – Giovanni Costello will perform, as well as artistic baritone from Austria – Martin Achrainer. For example, Giovanni Costello owner of a divine voice and charm, a conqueror of women's hearts across the globe and admired by audiences all over the world in his unique manner will perform hits and ballades of famous Italian singers, such as Caruso and Celentano. Meanwhile performance of Martin Achrainer, the soloist of Vienna Opera, will be a new discovery for Latvian audience of the festival. “Martin is able to sing both lowest and highest notes in his range, yet he does it in a very professional, sophisticated and filigree manner,” is written by one of the United States’ largest newspapers, The New York Times, about the vocal abilities of an Austrian baritone.
As a fundamental part of the music festival of Inese Galante is the Festival Orchestra under the guidance of its permanent conductor – Ekhart Wycik (Germany) combining particularly for the festival musicians of Latvia’s best professional orchestras. The programme of “Galá Galante” includes also the laureates of contest “Inese Galante’s talents” – performing both solo parts and together with outstanding musicians, new talents again will pleasantly surprise listeners with their developed skills, making to feel proud about our country’s talents of the young generation. On August 15, the 14th international music festival “Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends” will conclude with a grand closing concert and performance by the legendary musical trio – Trio Paris Royale, composed by guitarist Tino Kahl, contrabass player-virtuoso Michael Kehraus and outstanding soloist, violinist-wunderkind from Germany – Baptiste Pawlik, who has performed with Celine Dion, Robbie Williams and has played at the farewell concert for Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican City. At the age of three, Baptiste Pawlik begun his violin lessons and being only four-years-old, he won the contest “Jugend Musiziert”. As the youngest contestant, he was called a “musician-wunderkind”. Further followed by a series of awards and victories in the biggest musical contests around the world. Musical pieces performed by Baptiste Pawlik enchant audiences in Europe and Asia, but musician’s virtuosity can impress even the most implacable musical critics. As for today Baptiste Pawlik is one of the most popular and requested violinists, who during his performances expertly combines melodies of different genres into a single and laconic piece of music – always acknowledged by the public with stormy ovations.
In the concert programme – wide variety of musical genres: from music in French café style and gypsy jazz to hits of such legends as Michael Jackson and rock band Coldplay. The concert will culminate with the incredible performance of the well-known tango “Por una Cabeza” (from Spanish – “by a head”), from the first notes evoking in imagination the sensual dance from the movie “Scent of a Woman”, performed by Al Pacino and Gabrielle Anwar, and thoughts about passion and happiness to feel the madness of love.
