TALLINN – Estonia President Alar Karis said at the celebration of Europe Day on Freedom Square in Tallinn on Friday that Europe's greatest strength is its joint strength.
"When you are alone -- big or small -- you are weaker than when you are with others. Estonia has also learned this from history and promised itself -- never again alone," Karis said.
"Europe is our home. Our living space. Our environment. For culture, for economy, for education. Europe, that is who we are. Europe is right here, on this square," the head of state added.
According to him, Europe is stronger and better thanks to the protection of people's fundamental rights, freedoms, equal opportunities and solidarity.
"Europe continues to grow and the door to the European Union must be kept open. And those who wish to join must be allowed in. Estonia supports and has always supported the enlargement of the European Union," Karis said.
According to the head of state, Europe's strength lies in the differences between countries.
"Strength is also shown by our differences. But we must seek and find what brings us together and unites us. Our common interest, our common ground," he said.
"Today, we celebrate peace, not war. Freedom, not power. Solidarity, not dictatorship. We celebrate Europe Day. Not on Victory Square, but on Freedom Square," Karis added.
