TALLINN – Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal affirmed in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday that Estonia fully supports Ukraine on its path toward a just and lasting peace and is actively working to ensure that Ukraine and Moldova can move without delay toward European Union membership.

"European security depends on Ukraine’s security. Ukrainians must have the right to reject any peace proposal that does not ensure a just and lasting peace. Respect for territorial integrity is the foundation of stable international relations, and changing borders by force can never be accepted," Michal said.

The prime minister added that sanctions against Russia must not be lifted until Ukraine’s sovereignty is fully restored, the aggressor held accountable, and the war damages compensated.

Speaking about Ukraine’s future, Michal and Zelenskyy agreed that Ukraine and Moldova must move forward together on the path that leads to EU membership.

"We are working actively to open the first EU negotiation cluster for Ukraine and Moldova without delay, and we are ready to provide our full support," the prime minister said.
