RIGA - Culture played an important role in the restoration of the independence of the Baltic States, Estonian Parliament Speaker Lauri Hussar stressed, addressing the Latvian Saeima at the ceremonial session dedicated to the anniversary of the restoration of independence.
He said that culture is the foundation on which everything rests, which is why cultural workers, poets, musicians and others were at the forefront of the restoration of independence.
Moreover, the restoration of independence of the Baltic States has been recorded in world history as the singing revolution, Hussar said.
Both Hussar and Saulius Skvernelis, speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, congratulated the Latvian people on the 35th anniversary of the restoration of independence in video addresses.
As reported, today the Saeima gathered for a ceremonial sitting on the 35th anniversary of the restoration of independence.
