TALLINN – The Estonian Olympic Committee (EOC) has decided to award 15,000 euros to wrestler Epp Mae for the gold medal won by her at the 2021 European Wrestling Championships in Warsaw last week.
Besides, the coaches of Mae, Ahto Raska and Maksim Molonov, will get 7,500 euros combined.
The president of EOC, Urmas Soorumaa, expressed his gratitude to Mae.
"At this difficult time for the people of Estonia, you showed with your industriousness and diligence that everything is possible. If you can take it, you can make it. This achievement is even sweeter in the year of the Olympics!" Soorumaa said according to spokespeople.
Awards for medals won by Estonian athletes at international championships are allocated according to rules endorsed by the executive committee of EOC. Under these rules, a prize of 15,000 euros is paid to the winner of a gold medal in world championships in an Olympic discipline for adults. The size of the award for coaches is half the amount paid to the athlete.
The money for the payment of the prize is provided by the Ministry of Culture based on an application from EOC.
