TALLINN – Estonian Minister of Rural Affairs Arvo Aller on Friday met with Latvian counterpart Kaspars Gerhards, both minister affirmed that it is necessary to continue with the harmonization of direct support.
"Both Estonia and Latvia are satisfied with the European Commission's latest amendment to the European Union's long-term budget, which significantly increased rural funding," Aller said in a press release.
The topic of the meeting was also the Green Deal of the European Union. According to Aller, both countries have similar goals in terms of the agriculture portion of the Green Deal.
"Agriculture has an important role to play in achieving the objectives of the Green Deal. At the same time, it is important for the European Commission to take into account the efforts made so far by member states to introduce environmentally friendly farming practices," the minister added.
