TALLINN – The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday summoned the charge d'affaires of Russia due to Thursday's border incident on the Narva River.

"We clearly expressed to the Russian charge d'affaires that such actions are provocative and unacceptable, and we demand an explanation for the removal of the border markers and their immediate return," Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said.

"We are in close contact with allies and partners as we continue to counter Russia’s malign activities across Europe," he said.

In the early hours of May 23, the Russian border guard service unilaterally removed 25 light buoys that Estonia had installed in the border river to mark the Estonian-Russian border.
