TALLINN – Megaron-E AS is to build seven new equipment shelters at the Tapa military compound in northeastern Estonia for 2.5 million euros.
Seven new equipment shelters will be built on campus to ensure proper storage of armored and unarmored vehicles and equipment of the defense forces, spokespeople for the Estonian Center for Defense Investment (RKIK) said.
"The defense forces' fleet of machinery has been anticipating the construction of shelters for a long time, and in the course of waiting, the need for them has not diminished, but has increased further. Today, most of the defense forces' equipment is stored outdoors, which is unsustainable in the long term," Mart Salusaar, head of the construction office at RKIK, said.
"We have been an active participant in public procurements, but so far we have not been able to successfully participate in the tenders of the Center for Defense Investment, which is why winning this tender is very important for our company. We plan to start the work as soon as possible and we hope that the emergency situation in force in the country does not impose further restrictions on carrying out the work," Tanel Tamme, Megaron-E management board member and construction director, said.
The cost of building the shelters is 2,545,779 euros and they are scheduled to be completed in a year.
