RIGA - The Employers' Confederation of Latvia and its partners are calling on Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) to take decisive action in the development of sustainable, nationwide STEM education system in Latvia, as the confederation's representatives informed LETA.

Businesses and the state need to cooperate effectively to raise productivity, to compete in export markets, to create high added value goods and services.

"This is not possible if Latvian businesses lack the workforce necessary for production - highly qualified employees with modern, internationally competitive STEM knowledge and skills," the Employers Confederation's representatives point out.

The organizations call on Silina to ensure that work continue on STEM methodologies and teaching aids, which was launched in 2021 and is currently discontinued.

At the same time, funding for public initiatives in the field of STEM education should be provided, including in the regions, believes the confederation.
