RIGA - The Kurzeme District Court has sentenced an 83-years-old pastor to ten years in jail for sexually abusing five girls in Talsi Municipality, LETA was told at the prosecutor's office.
The man, born in 1941, was charged with sexually abusing five girls, aged seven to 16, between August 2018 and April 2022. The pastor took advantage of his authority, the girls' trust, and in four cases, the victims' helplessness.
The court found the defendant guilty of the offences and sentenced him to an imprisonment of 10 years and three years under probation supervision.
The prosecutor is satisfied with the sentence handed down to the defendant.
The other parties involved in the proceedings can appeal against the verdict to the Kurzeme Regional Court.
