Education Ministry plans to organize Youth Song and Dance Celebration in summer

RIGA - The Education and Science Ministry plans to organize the XII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration this summer, Education and Science Minister Ilga Suplinska (New Conservative Party) said at a news conference.

The minister indicated that the festival will be held in strict compliance with epidemiological requirements and restrictions on assembly. The song and dance festival will take place within one week, with events of equal importance planned not only in Riga but in all Latvia. 

The minister said that participants of the song and dance festival will be chosen in a competition that will be held remotely, with participants asked to record their assigned performances on video and sent their entries to the expert jury in May. 

"The tasks will be formulated by the steering committee of the XII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration in collaboration with experts who will be judging the participants' preparedness to perform," said Suplinska. 

As reported, the XII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration was to be held in the summer of 2020, but the festival was re-scheduled to the summer 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
