RIGA - The Economics Ministry does not support the recent practice of some stores to switch from the "green regime" to the "red regime" by reducing the retail floor space.

The ministry calls on retailers to be aware of the gravity of the situation, take care of safety of their employees and customers, meeting all epidemiological safety regulations.

According to the present regulation, retailers should ensure at least 25 square meters of floor space of the publicly accessible retail area. This area does not include other rooms, storage rooms, administration offices where customers are not allowed and where services are not provided.

Latvian Re:TV television reported that several supermarkets that were operating in the "green regime", requiring customers to present valid Covid-19 certificates, have switched to the "red or epidemiologically unsafe regime" by reducing the retail area with the help of shelves and other constructions.
