The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) has signed a seven-year framework agreement with AS Maru Metall and MDSC Systems OÜ for the supply of mobile modular hospital solutions and mobile units to the Estonian and Lithuanian Defence Forces.
This is the first framework agreement of its kind, enabling ongoing orders for new systems and upgrades, as well as ensuring maintenance, repair, and user training for medical units. The total value of the joint Estonian–Lithuanian framework agreement is 150 million euros over seven years.
“At the beginning of October, we placed an order for the design and construction of one mobile modular hospital for the 2nd Infantry Brigade. Currently, only the 1st Infantry Brigade has a mobile modular hospital, but our goal is for both brigades to have modern mobile military medical facilities capable of providing professional medical care during exercises, as well as in emergencies and crisis situations,” said Maia Prunt, ECDI’s Strategic Category Manager for Soldier Equipment and Life Support.
The new mobile modular hospital is expected to be completed in 2026. It will provide the 2nd Infantry Brigade with medical support in emergency medicine, primary surgery, intensive care, nursing, and outpatient treatment. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and built to modern standards, the hospital will be capable of delivering medical care at a nationally required level.
The facility will also support medical logistics for itself and other brigade medical units, including the supply of sterile surgical materials and medical oxygen, which can be produced on-site. The hospital will be self-sufficient in generating electricity and clean water when needed and will include a sanitation module with toilets and showers.
MDSC Systems OÜ has more than ten years of experience producing mobile, rapidly deployable, and collapsible modular hospitals. The company’s mobile units have proven their effectiveness on the battlefield in Ukraine, saving lives, and were also used by the Estonian Defence Forces during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kuressaare.
According to Kristjan Kamdron, Member of the Management Board of MDSC Systems OÜ, the long-term agreement with ECDI allows the company to focus on product development and further strengthen Estonia’s defence capability. “This is the largest contract ever signed by our company, and it demonstrates strong mutual trust,” Kamdron said. He added that in recent months, MDSC Systems has gradually relocated its production to a new energy-efficient facility in Männiku, Tallinn.
