RIGA - The Daugava Stadium Arena has been put into operation ahead of the Ice Hockey World Championships, and will be used as the practice arena for teams participating in the World Championships, it was reported last night.
This after the State Fire and Rescue Service gave the necessary permits for the arena to be put into operation yesterday.
Construction works of the arena had been delayed, with the organizers of the WC beginning to prepare the Volva Arena for the needs of the WC in case the Daugava Arena did not open in time.
The Ice Hockey World Championships will kick-off in Riga on May 21, with the final scheduled for June 6.
Latvia will open the tournament on May 21 against Canada.
