Criminal processes involving Riga City Council should bring results – State Security Service

RIGA – The Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) has been working efficiently, several criminal procedures have been started in relation to economic activities of the Riga City Council and these processes should bring results, said State Security Service (VDD) chief Normunds Mezviets in an interview with commercial LNT television today.

Hes aid that VDD is also following developments at the Riga City Council, viewing them from the point of view of national security.

Mezviets also said that the service has one criminal procedure in relation with the Riga City Council – on distribution of leaflets and incitement to ethnic hatred.

As reported, VDD received from the State Police a criminal procedure on alleged incitement to ethnic hatred and distribution of leaflets ahead of the rally of Harmony party in support of Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony).

Photographs of the leaflets posted on social networks depict Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony), wearing prison garb, captured by soldiers in Nazi Germany soldiers' uniforms. Usakovs wears a placard that says: "Because I'm Russian", while swastika on the soldiers' helmets has been replaced by a logo that strongly resembles the logo of National Alliance.

Rally in support to Usakovs was held after searches conducted in the mayor’s place of residence in relation to corruption scandals at Rigas Satiksme municipal public transport company.
