RIGA - Riga Regional Court on Monday ruled to reinstate Rolands Kronlaks in his job at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA), LETA learned at the court of appeals.
Having heard the appeals lodged by the JVLMA and Kronlaks against the ruling of the Riga City Court of August 1, 2024, the regional court decided to grant Kronlaks' reinstatement request as his employer was found to have committed a number of serious breaches of the dismissal procedure.
The Riga Regional Court's judgement annulled the employer's notice of April 9, 2024 and ordered the applicant to be reinstated as an associate professor at the JVLMA Department of Composition.
The academy was ordered to pay the incorrectly dismissed employee's average earnings for the period of forced absence from work and the lawyer's costs, totaling EUR 19 429.
The regional court's ruling can be appealed within 30 days to the Supreme Court.
The JVLMA said that the academy does not agree with the ruling of the regional court and will appeal it.
As reported, Kronlaks was one of the JVLMA academic staff members who last year were fired for an alleged sexual harassment of female students.
The scandal over the alleged sexual harassment of female students at the Latvian Academy of Music broke out in March after LTV's Kultursoks (Culture Shock) program obtained testimonies of seven female JVLMA students alleging sexual harassment by certain academic staff members.
Kronlaks maintains that his sacking for alleged sexual harassment of female students was unlawful, as he had already been punished for inappropriate communication with students, LTV previously reported.
