RIGA - The State Police (VP) has arrested an elementary school teacher in Carnikava on suspicion of sexual crimes against minors, Latvian Television reported last night.
Raivis Pauls, the principal of Carnikava elementary school, emphasizes that there is no place for such people in the school and praises the children for having the courage to ask for help.
The State Police confirmed to LTV that the teacher was taken into custody on October 2, but police refuse to give further comments at the initial stages of the investigation.
The school's principal contacted the police after receiving an anonymous email about the teacher's actions.
"In the course of the investigation, police have obtained confirmation of the suspicions. This person has been taken into custody until the trial," says Pauls.
This is not the first year that the young teacher works at the school. Until now, complaints have been received about him in connection with the quality of lessons. The principal calls on the students not to be silent if the teacher has hurt someone else.
"No child should feel threatened at school. I would like to believe that there will not be many episodes. On the other hand, if there are such episodes, I also want the children to not be shy to talk about them," says the school principal.
