RIGA - Last year Latvia recorded the highest blood donation activity in the last 13 years, but at the same time demand for blood from medical institutions also increased, according to the State Blood Donor Center's data.
63,707 blood donations were made in Latvia, or 1,375 more than in 2024. The total number of donors rose from 35,000 in 2024 to 36,026 last year.
Last year, the average donor age was 39 years, while most first-time donors were 31 years old. The Blood Donor Center urges more young people to donate blood.
277 donors donated blood on their birthday last year.
52.5 percent of blood donors last year were women, and 47.5 percent were men.
19,339 donors donated blood once, 8,946 twice, 5,122 three times, 2,018 four times, 568 five times and 33 people donated blood six times last year.
The Blood Donor Center reminds residents that blood donation is fast, safe and helps maintain healthy blood circulation, and that without blood donors, many life-saving medical procedures would be impossible.
