RIGA - The Baltic countries are in a unique position to prevent weakening of the transatlantic ties both the United States and Canada, President Edgars Rinkevics stressed while opening the Baltic Assembly conference "Borders of Diplomacy and Diplomacy Beyond Borders" on Friday.
"The role of the United States and Canada is significant. It is, of course, particularly important here in our region. However harsh the rhetoric may sometimes be on both sides, it is the Baltic region that can serve as a bridge to strengthen transatlantic relations in the future, because we are listened to in Washington, in Brussels, in Berlin, in Paris and in other capitals," said Rinkevics.
Members of the parliaments of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia participate in the Baltic Assembly conference "Borders of Diplomacy and Diplomacy Beyond Borders" in Saeima today to discuss the Baltic parliamentary diplomacy's contribution to overcoming regional challenges and cooperation with international partners.
