Following the wishes and needs of its visitors, as well as current market trends, the shopping and entertainment centre (hereinafter – SC) AKROPOLE Alfa will invest more than EUR 2 million in the improvement and modernisation of its premises and infrastructure this year. The modernisation plan includes the creation of new and modern parents’ rooms, the redesign and redecoration of the amenities and their increase in number, the creation of a new navigation system and the improvement of indoor seating areas.
“AKROPOLE Alfa is the largest shopping centre in Latvia and modernisation works are continuously taking place in its 71 000 m2 area. The improvements planned for this year will be the biggest since Alfa Shopping Centre joined the AKROPOLE family and are significant for both our visitors and tenants. By investing in the improvement of premises and infrastructure, as well as in solutions aimed at the comfort of visitors, we are responding to the needs of visitors to provide a modern and comfortable shopping environment,” comments Kaspars Beitiņš, CEO of SIA Akropole Latvija.
The modernisation works will be organised in such a way as not to cause inconvenience to the shopping centre’s visitors and employees. The works will be carried out in several stages and are planned to be completed by the beginning of 2026.
What improvements can visitors expect?
The largest investment will be in the renovation and modernisation of the SC’s amenities, which will involve renovating the facilities and increasing the number of amenities. At the same time, five new parents’ rooms will be built to provide comfortable sofas and chairs, changing tables and other amenities for new mothers. Indoor seating areas will also be improved and additional plants will be placed in public corridors. For the convenience of visitors, storage lockers will be installed in the amenities area near the Douglas store.
To make navigating the SC even more convenient and easier, a new navigation system concept will be developed this year and modern interactive maps and signs will be introduced. The operation of the SC’s lifts, escalators and moving walkways will also be improved to ensure better mobility for visitors. The stormwater system of AKROPOLE Alfa will also be improved to prevent the various risks associated with heavy rainfall.
The development of a project for the installation of new electric vehicle charging stations in the SC area will also begin, with 20 planned stations to be installed next year.
Positive changes in the range of stores as well
Last year, 11 new stores, stands and service providers opened in SC AKROPOLE Alfa – computer game and IT equipment store Baitukas, beauty salon HairRiga, stores representing local small producers Latvijas Pērles and Dāvanu Studija, the sports footwear king JD Sports, the Italian menswear store Dan John, the smart device accessories stand CoverMe, the specialised tea and coffee stand Cantata, the jewellery store Fashion Zone, the homeware store H&M Home, and the electronic cigarette and accessories stand RoyalSmoke.
Likewise, keeping the convenience of visitors in mind, several stores and service outlets – Donna, Mēness Aptieka, Denim Dream, Rosme, Tom Tailor, ČILI PIZZA, 4F, Baltic Data and AIOO – changed their locations in the SC. Meanwhile, NS King, Camel Active, Danija, Salamander, Nike, Lee Cooper, Gerry Weber, Geneva, CROCS and L’Occitane renovated their premises. “We are grateful to our tenants for their investment, as it helps the shopping centre continue to be one of the most popular entertainment and shopping destinations for both Riga residents and visitors,” says Kaspars Beitiņš.
In addition, this year will also see a number of exciting additions, including the opening of brand stores and service outlets such as Tradehouse, Vision Express vision and hearing centre, and others in the near future.
