1962, Hook of Holland.
From my extensive postage stamp collection the stamps from a country called Latvija are for me the most intriguing. The pictures have a mysterious, ghostly appearance: a sworded knight slaying a dragon, a woman with a shield protecting two wounded men against a monstrous creature, a blond knight fighting against a dark opponent. The stamps are printed on bank notes and maps, which only makes them even more mysterious. I ask my father: “Where lies Latvija?”
“Latvija is Letland, but doesn’t exist anymor...
