15 criminal processes have been launched for supporting Russian aggression towards Ukraine since start of war

RIGA - Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the State Security Service (VDD) of Latvia has launched 15 criminal process for supporting Russian aggression towards Ukraine and its residents, LETA was told by the VDD.

In these 15 criminal proceedings, nine persons currently have the status of a suspect, while four persons have the status of a person against whom criminal proceedings have been launched.

Three suspects have been taken into custody as a security measure - Aivis Vasilevskis, a representative of the so-called DVS Urantija ''center for spiritual development and healing'', Jurijs Mihailovs, the founder and administrator of the Russian-language Facebook page Criminal Latvia, and Kirils Fjodorovs, a blogger.

Six criminal proceedings have been initiated under two articles of the Criminal Code, namely for the justification and glorification of war crimes committed by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, and for actions aimed at inciting national and ethnic hatred or discord. The VDD has initiated five more criminal proceedings for actions aimed at inciting national and ethnic hatred or discord, and four more for justifying and glorifying war crimes committed by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine.

At the same time, the VDD is continuing to investigate several other incidents.
