A yacht scraping a high-voltage electricity line in a prohibited zone in the Klaipeda port channel interrupted power supplies to the Curonian Spit for a brief period of time around noon on Monday, July 24.
"The main electricity transmission line from Klaipeda to Juodkrante had been disconnected, leaving the entire Neringa powerless. We believe the line was disconnected by a yacht sailing in a prohibited area under cables," Gabriele Patriubaviciute, head of communication project at Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator Litgrid , said.
