RIGA - It is important that world leaders defend the vision of education as a global public good, Education and Science Minister Anita Muizniece (Conservatives) said during a meeting with the United Nations' Deputy Secretary-General Amina Jane Mohammed.
As the minister emphasized during the meeting, Latvia will continue to contribute to ensure lasting impact of the outcome of the Transforming Education Summit.
The two officials paid particular attention to the consequences of the Russian war in Ukraine regarding the physical and emotional safety of children and young people, as well as their opportunities to get an education. Mohammed thanked Latvia for its leadership and active position in dealing with the conflict in Ukraine
Muizniece and Mohammed also discussed fostering digitization of education and information and media literacy.
