RIGA - A woman in the eastern Latvian town of Kraslava has been detained on suspicions of killing her three years old daughter, Lasma Kursite, a representative of the Latgale department of the State Police, informed LETA.
Last Sunday, December 4, paramedics were called to an apartment house in Kraslava where a three years old girl had reportedly fallen from the upper bunk of a double-bunk bed. On arriving at the scene, the paramedics found that the child was already dead and called the police.
Law enforcement officers established that the girl had probably become victim of a crime. In the apartment, they found and seized evidence suggesting that the child had been suffering abuse.
The girl's parents - a 24 years old woman and a 29 years old man - were detained in the apartment on suspicions of killing the child.
A criminal investigation into the suspected murder case is ongoing.
On Monday, December 5, a court in Daugavpils ruled to leave the girl's mother under arrest.
There are three more children growing up in the family, which was already known to police for various offenses.
