Lithuanian builders “conquered” Greenland a year before the new US President. For more than a year, workers from Lithuania have been building a hotel, a dormitory, a hospital and a shopping centre in the island’s largest cities. Once completed, work is planned to continue on other sites.
“My colleagues and I joke that we were the first to see the opportunities in Greenland, and we started working here a little over a year ago,” smiles Žydrūnas Andruška, CEO of Litpersona. The specialists selected by this company have been working in Danish construction for nine years and in Norway and the Faroe Islands for several years already.
Recommendations from Denmark
“We have been hired to carry out various works in the largest Danish construction projects and we have proved that Lithuanian specialists have excellent knowledge of the work, guarantee quality and meet deadlines. In Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, a large part of the construction work is organised and carried out by Danish companies. Our work over the years has earned us the recommendation to be invited to work on the world’s largest island. And the first concrete workers to arrive, who had acquired a high work ethic on major projects in the Copenhagen region, impressed the Danish and Greenlandic partners with the speed, quality and orderliness of their work,” the CEO of Litpersona reveals the behind-the-scenes story of entering Greenland.
Thirty Lithuanian construction workers are currently building a hospital extension, two phases of a dormitory complex for the Arctic Institute, a shopping centre and a hotel for the SØMA chain in Sisimiut, the second-largest city on the island. The chain is the largest on the island of 57,000 inhabitants and operates 4 hotels. Sisimiut is particularly popular with tourists for its picturesque limestone and mountains, hiking trails and ski slopes, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aasivissuit-Nipisat. All sites are scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
Greenland is a prospective employer
“The work of Lithuanian professionals is also highly appreciated in Greenland. Together with our Danish and Greenlandic partners, we are already making plans for the future construction of an apartment block on the world’s largest island, new dormitories, and the development of the infrastructure at the Thule Air Base,” the CEO of Litpersona shares his future plans. – Lithuanian construction specialists will continue to be able to demonstrate their professionalism and assist local builders who have less experience and expertise in building houses in harsh climatic conditions.”
Lithuanian construction workers in Greenland work according to local laws and have weekends off. “Litpersona guarantees a monthly salary of between EUR 4,300 and EUR 5,300 per month for professionals working in Greenland.”
According to Žydrūnas Andruška, Lithuanian builders are not affected by the US President’s statements, “The vast majority of our partners and the local population are only jokingly dismissing Donald Trump’s statements, although there are some people who do not mind taking refuge under the wing of the US.”
Litpersona has now created over 100 exciting and well-paid jobs for construction professionals in Denmark, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
