RIGA - Western countries must impose the strictest possible sanctions on Russia and provide all necessary military support to Ukraine to help it win the war launched by Russia, Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks (For Development) said during a meeting with US Congressman Peter Welch.
"This is the moral responsibility and rational understanding of the West to prevent future wars," Pabriks told LETA.
The Minister briefed the US Congressman on Latvia's assistance to Ukraine, which includes military equipment, including weapons, worth more than 200 million euros to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
Pabriks also emphasized the need to review NATO's approach to defense and deterrence policy and to increase the allied presence in Latvia. The minister also called for the expansion of US military support to Latvia by strengthening the presence of its armed forces, including the deployment of military capabilities or armaments and the allocation of additional funding for the development of Latvia's defense capabilities.
