VILNIUS - Vilnius University (VU) said on Tuesday it will shut down for two days later this week in protest over low salaries.

VU spokesman Ervinas Spudys confirmed to BNS that the university's staff will have two paid days off on Thursday and Friday.

"Since the government fails to deliver on its promises to allocate additional funds to increase salaries for lecturers, researchers and non-academic staff and fails to review the size of incentive scholarships for students from January 1, VU will temporarily suspend its activities," he said.
